You have several options for template quilting with the Hinterberg Machine Frame.

Freehand Quilting
In Freehand Quilting, you don't use a template board. Instead, you might trace your pattern onto your quilt with washable marker or just make up the design as you go along. Meandering or stippling are two examples of this style of quilting.
Template Quilting
To follow any kind of template on the Hinterberg Machine Frames:
You supply a 1"x8" Template Board. You will cut this board down to match the size of your rollers. You can lay your pantograph rolls or your hand drawings on this board for tracing.
You can reverse the handles by removing two knobs. With the handles reversed, you can quilt from a seated position at the rear of the frame. This will also allow you to use your Hand Speed Control for template quilting.

Paper Templates
Use the laser pointer included with the frame to follow your design.

Grooved Template
Another method of template quilting is to use a grooved template and a stylus attached to your machine carriage. Our pointer package includes a stylus.
The Pointer package is INCLUDED with the purchase of the frame after Oct. 2003. It is also available for purchase for customers who bought their frame before this date. See the Pointer Package page for more information.
The grooved template boards allow you to follow the pattern much more easily than the laser pointer. You have to guide your machine along the groove, but using the groove gives you more consistent results.

Our Stretch Frame template boards include 5 designs on each board. The boards consist of six 18" pieces, and one 13.5 " piece that interlock together like puzzle pieces. This means that you can make your rollers several lengths (10', 8.5', 7', 5.5' or 4') without having to cut the template boards down. If you want to make it a different length, you can simply cut the smallest end template off to the desired length.
One board is included with the purchase of a STRETCH Frame. Additional STRETCH boards can be purchased for $120 each. The standard board patterns are shown to the right. Pattern T1 is on top, and Pattern T2 is below it.
Our Machine Frame template boards are 7" wide with two 3-1/2" patterns on each. These are sold separately from the frame and are $95.00 for each board. The boards consist of six 18" pieces, and one 13.5 " piece that interlock together like puzzle pieces.
